Hispanic Magazine.com - July/August 2004 - Cultura

Actually, despite the last post, it is interesting how political Mexican popular music actually is, especially when compared with US popular music, which is essentially machine crafted pap.

Los Tigres Del Norte, the hugest of all Mexican bands, and a pretty good one, tackles social themes in all of their work. Well, most of their work. If "drugs" counts as a "social theme" then I can stick with 'all of their work.'

Anyway, I just read an article about them in Hispanic magazine, which for some inexplicable reason my mother has a subscription to. I thought I had a handle on her interests, but I guess not.

Even less clear is why she has them going back several years. I hadn't realized I was reading a stack of magazines from a few years back until I searched for the article online. I have been working my way through a large stack of them she gave me and never bothered to read the dates. (Not outdated--timeless).

It is actually a decent magazine. The articles are short, but they are interesting.

Even if nobody in my family has considered themselves Hispanic since my family on my mom's side was expelled from Spain in the 1490s.
