I mentioned that I was returning to Norfolk without enthusiasm to a friend of mine, and here is what he wrote:

"Hmm, Norfolk has zero appeal? I remember when I was a home health aide for elderly folks, one of the oldsters that I took care of told me that when he was stationed in Norfolk in his Navy days, they called Norfolk "shit city." I guess some things are still the same."
