This son jarocho band Son de Madera is playing at Barbès in Brooklyn, if you happen to be reading this in NY and you happen to want to hear some son jarcho (two happenstances I suspect apply to at least one of you but maybe none, depending on the day).

The song on their myspace page is pretty slow, but they can and do play the more intense stuff.

They are from Xalapa, a town which, by chance, contains a perfect little bar about which the old lady and I were just reminiscing about earlier this week, and in which, although she was not drinking at that time, a good time was had by all.
