Once groomed to fight, Michael Vick dogs find new purpose | HamptonRoads.com | PilotOnline.com

Does it seem like a good idea to be transforming pit bulls rescued from Michael Vick's dogfight pits into friendly visiting dogs for old timers and cancer patients? You know, bringing these killers around to defenseless hunks of meat? Recipe for disaster isn't it?

Some do-gooder dreamed this up and it may have seemed like such a heartwarming idea. I do wonder how many pit bulls are brought into companion dog service when they haven't been rescued from celebrities.

What about the idea of the court forcing high-tech lynching victim Vick to pay a million bucks to transform his pit bulls into Lassie?

Ok, I don't really give a shit if they fined Vick a million dollars, but very seriously, couldn't that money have been used perhaps to save the thousands and tens of thousands of friendly, non-killing dogs of non-murderous breeds that are killed in cold blood in shelters across the country? The news stories about Vick were horrified to report that Vick killed poorly fighting fighting dogs. But, of course, we all stand aside while non-fighting pets are regularly gassed just because people don't want them anymore (or never wanted them).
