WWSB ABC 7 Florida - Sarasota, Bradenton, Venice, North Port, Siesta Key Breaking News, Weather, Sports and Traffic on the Suncoast | School board takes on beekeepers over stings: "BRANDON, Fla. (AP) - A Tampa Bay principal is complaining that bees are becoming a problem at her school.
Karen Pierson at Limona Elementary School in Brandon says bees are stinging teachers and students and leaving corrosive droppings on cars.
It's become such an issue that the Hillsborough County School Board is taking it on.
Pierson and others believe the bees are coming from two brothers' beekeeping business across town. They want the bees to be corralled.
But Steve and Michael Grande say the school is exaggerating bee-sting complaints as an excuse to shut down their business.
The board was planning to consider a lawsuit against the Grandes, but the item was tabled before last night's meeting."
